004 How Do 2nd and 3rd Hand Accounts Add to Our Understanding of the First Vision?
Thousands of people heard Joseph Smith’s testimony first hand. Some of those testimonies included him telling about his First Vision experience. Some of those people who heard his witness wrote down the details of what they heard. Luckily, a few of those handwritten accounts have survived until today and some of them contain even more details about Joseph’s vision which add to our understanding of what happened in 1820 in the Sacred Grove in Palmyra, New York. In today's episode we explore three of these second hand accounts and then one bonus third-hand account which contains a significant detail that no other account ever mentions.

”cursed” etc. I am not sure if Joseph really preached that God the Father and his son were Caucasian, but the idea that Jesus Christ was born on earth as a middle eastern man has been helpful for some of my friends of color. I just wish that when you mentioned this detail in the third hand account, maybe some of this stuff could have been touched on. It was disturbing to me I’m afraid. But I am looking forward to listening to your series on the priesthood and temple ban!

eyes” I’ve been struggling with this and other places where I have heard Joseph reported as saying that Jesus had the bluest eyes ever, etc. In other accounts Joseph mentions the glory and lightning like countenances of heavenly messengers which makes me wonder if seeing the father and son as ”white” might not be a thing he could easily interpret. I’m struggling with the understanding still prevalent with many members in our church that white is the default and other skin colors are

I listened to the First vision series the last few days, and I was a little troubled about something.
